Although never a substitute for a good music dictionary text, here is an on-line music dictionary site which gives a spoken pronunciation along with the definitions.

There are many on-line music dictionary sites. This is an additional one to bookmark:

Judging by its article on the clarinet, I would be wary of its accuracy.

For example, we read that: "The most commonly used clarinets are transposing instruments in the keys of B-flat, E, A, and D. The clarinet is also made in the keys of C, E-flat and A-flat, as well as the Basset horn in F, E-flat alto clarinet, E-flat contra alto clarinet, B-flat contrabass clarinet, and E-flat contrabass clarinet. ".

Clarinet in E, anybody?

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

I agree.

In addition, while there were entries for "polonaise" and even "krakoviak," there was no entry for "estoniense," the famous estonian dance form.

"...Clarinet in E, anybody?..."

Probably written by a guitar player [wink]

As I said: "Although never a substitute for a good music dictionary text"

However, as we frequently get questions on pronunciation, this site is helpful ...GBK

Maybe. No sound card on this PC. But given that they can't spell, and there are some laughable errors ("timpano" is the Italian term for "timpani"....) I see no reason to trust the pronounciations either.

They give a written pronounciation of Agnus Dei as "(On-yoos Dae)". Not that I'm saying they are wrong or anything, but it doesn't sound like that on any recording I own.

Although I didn't check ALL of the definitions for accuracy (the majority of them looked acceptable) the pronunciations were a unique (and helpful) feature...GBK

David, 'Clarinet in E' obviously refers to the Eb instrument and is also quite obviously a typo.....get yourself a sound card....the pronunciations are good.

"estoniense," the famous estonian dance form.

Indeed, I often come across local dance groups trying without success to replicate the intricacies of this most popular and widespread form of visual artistry.
