dear fellow clarinetists!
I need an immediate help.my recital is this monday and i need information about the composer mentioned above.i am playing the hmmage for manuel de falla,and i need to know something about the composer to put in my progrm notes.

Umm, Michal, Bela Kovacs is a clarinetist who records for the Naxos label.According to my notes on the CD liner, it says:
Born in Tatbanya in 1937, Bela Kovacs studied at the Ferenc Lizst Academy of Music in Budapest and from 1956 utnil 1981 was principal clarinetist in the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra. In 1969 he joined the teaching staff of the Hungarian Wind Qunitet and the Budapest Chamber Ensemble and as a soloist in the first performances of a number of works by contemporary Hungarian composers. Awards in Hungary include the title Artist of Merit and the Kossuth Prize.

Michal -
Bela Kovacs is one of the finest clarinet players in the world. He teaches at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest and is, or was, the principal clarinetist of one of the Budapest orchestras - I think the Budapest Opera. He made many records during the LP era, which were issued on Hungaroton, Supraphon and other East-European labels. Recently, he has made CD recordings for Naxos. He is primarily known as a performer and teacher.
His playing is phenomenal. Even in those impossible passages where everybody has to struggle, he plays absolutely clean. His tone can be powerful or caressing, and his phrasing is wonderfully elegant. I can't think of anyone who plays better.
His name is pronounced to rhyme (approximately) with "no notch."

Michal, besides all the stuff that the others wrote, I can add only a few things: he retired from the Hungarian Opera several years ago, and in part time he teaches in Graz.
He is around sixty-three now. He gives only a few recitals per year, and he is a reed-guru.
