 Desert Island Instruments !

As I listed my meagre list of instruments as requested by a recent post, I mused on which instrument (if only one was allowed in Desert Island Discs style) that I would take with me.

I searched for any indication of a previous thread on this, but only came up with music or CD's to take.

So those of you with a range of instruments - which one would you take and why ?

Bass clarinet for me - as I would like to communicate with as many animal types as I could ???? I reckon I can make pretty authentic whale calls with it - now there's an idea for a composition.

Let's see.............................

Bass carinet it is for me too, since I need to practice more on the bass and I'll have plenty of time to practice on the island.

That would be my new Yamaha. An easy choice, considering I only have 2 to choose from :)

I'd take the basset horn - more kindling for those cold tropical evenings and stronger springs to fashion into hooks to catch bigger fish

Presuming I won't have a Man Friday to carry things, my Baritone Chromonica.

I can make my own Xaphoon from the local flora.

PS - It has been a recurrent thread from "When Wild animals attack" that the victim was practicing Harry Potter charts on an Alto clarinet at the time.

Generally, this is ruled as justifiable - if tasteless.

lol. I only have one clar. but lets just pretend I was allowed to take a school instrument if I wanted (contra alto, bass clar, effer)- of those and my current Bb clar., I would take my Bb, because I just love it. It's a beautiful instrument. I do love the bass though...and my school has a nice buffet (I think R-13) bass... but I play the beefer better, so I'd take her. (hmm...sex of the Bb clarinet...) only one? I'd like to take an A as well as the Bb- maybe they'd procreate and I'd get an Eb too!

This is most interesting, requires thot. Most of us [I guess] fanticize a South Seas Island, where high temps and humility are most common, SO, I think I'd choose a high-quality Plastic [H R, Resonite, RYTON{polyarylene sulfide resin} et al ] ?a Ridenour low C bass cl? with "permanent" pads and non-rusting springs, a good swab and a box of soft reeds [and a reed trimmer], a 2 hook neckstrap AND a peg, and a few "good books with clarinet in their titles". All?, more likely only some, of the comforts of our USA home?? Would need monthly [weakly] Care packages to preserve sanity, and health beyond coconuts and fish. Simpler to stay home !! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
