Just bought a red Dazzler (Vito)
Author: ffrr

I was learning Sax, but couldn`t afford to buy one, so I have just bought a clarinet instead.

It was secondhand, but feels and plays like new. All joints are tight, and no leaks that I can find - the low notes are strong and easy to blow. All pads present and in good condition.

I was a little put off by the bright red colour, but I had read that the Vito clarinets were good student choices. This one, the 7312 apparently is the same as the 7212 only coloured.

So, after buying a couple of reeds on the way home, it's my first night trying to play clarinet. I think my sax practice has helped as I am playing simple tunes easily enough (simple stuff like - When the saints go marching in, and Wooden Heart)

I think I`m going to enjoy this instrument.

Well, Congrats, hope the bright red doesn't blind you, yes, many of us like the Vito [family] as starter cls , for a few years , learning about the overblowing via 12ths, not the octave like saxes, and gaining facility "across the break". Keep reading here, good luck. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

You should be a standout at Carnegie Hall....now, if you'd just get a white one and a blue one you could.....just kidding, of course, since I think the Vitos are great horns and not just for beginners. You might tryout some other mouthpieces, however.

I remember in sixth grade, when we start band, I was waiting for my clarinet to arrive in the mail. I was deathly afraid that I was going to get a red or white one, since I had no say in the buying process.

A well known music store here in Vancouver has been known to interchange red and green clarinet pieces at Christmas, and display them in a very prominent place.

I always wanted (and still kind of do) those clarinets painted with crazy designs...like purple with black tiger stripes, for one... fun for jazzy gigs, dontcha think? [grin] and I heard of this crystal MP...don't know the brand and have wanted one...not sure what crystal does to the quality of sound...I just wanted one 'cause they look cool [tongue]

I always thought vitos were more geared toward students, since most younger kids have vitos (the one's I know anyway)- is yours that woody red tint, or actually bright crayon-colored red? whew- sounds fun to me!

it's really bright fire engine red :-)

I am getting used to it. Hey, Miles Davis had a bright red trumpet at one time !

Well, of course. Unlike the Sax, range difficulty on the Clarinet is going up, not going down.

Ooh, the pretty colors...
Through the JC Penney catalogs you can buy different colored musical instruments--flutes, clarinets, and trumpets. I believe they all come in red, purple, blue, and possibly green, but don't quote me on that. I think they're just for fun, not of much playable value.

The more troubling question:

Why would anyone even consider purchasing a musical instrument from the JC Penny catalog? ...GBK

The Penney catalog doesn't give a complete view, but the instrument doesn't look like a Vito. http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/Products.aspx?DeptID=10&CatID=22894&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=0a003f7&ProdSeq=1&ProdCount=1&Dep=ELECTRONICS+%26amp%3b+MUSIC&RefPage=SearchDepartment&ShowMenu=T&ShopBy=0&SearchString=clarinet&S4DeptID=10#

Weiner gets $690 for a Dazzler. http://www7.mailordercentral.com/frederichweinerinc/prodinfo.asp?number=IV1R&variation=&aitem=6&mitem=18 At $249.95, the Penney instrument is undoubtedly one of those horrible Chinese clarinet-shaped objects. Don't walk -- RUN away.

Enjoy your Dazzler. Now if only they would make a clear one. . . .

Well I got it for about one quarter of that price, so I am happy :-)
