A Visit to Robertos NYC. plus Haynes Silver Clar.

There was a thread on this BB about where to go in NYC to satisfy the urge to see woodwind-related material. Count this as one must-see recommendation"

While visiting NY I had the great pleasure of stopping by the 46th St and 48th St. Robertos woodwind. shops.

The folks were super friendly and I had the pleasure of examing a rarity....a double walled Haynes silver clarinet. What a thing of beauty....the keys felt molded to my digits.....wish I had brought my mouthpiece.

As for the saxes....think "candy shop"....what an array of classics. And there was a jewel case of wooded sax necks. On the wall was a rogues gallery of jazz greats who left there imprimateur....definitly worth seeing.

I had the opportunity a few months ago to play Jim Lande's Haynes silver double-wall clarinets ---- absolutely marvelous!

FWIW, Roberto is a great guy and does excellent sax repair work.

I've never had the chance to visit Robertos as I live in another state. However, I use Robertos as one of my main mail order shops. I have nothing but praise for Robertos staff and the excellent customer service they provide. Matt, in particular, has been of great help to me numerous times. In searching my memory, I can't think of a single time when I had a problem with an order.
