The Clarinet BBoard

Years ago in St. Marks Square in Venice I heard a most charming and romantic piece played by a clarinet in a small combo. The music was so appealing that I stuck my head around the music stand to catch the title. It was called "Blue Dolphin". Has anyone heard of it and know where to get the sheet music?

Could you mean "On Green Dolphin Street"? You can find that in Aebersold volume 34.

There's an old jazz standard called "Green Dolphin Street" that sounds great on clarinet. Could that be what you remember??

No, I'm familiar with "Green Dolphin Street". Its "Blue Dolphin". I actually downloaded a version of the song on the Safe-Share music site. Its by Frank Pourcel and its as good as I remember, but its an orchestra rather than clarinet performance. Its puzzling that such a nice piece is virtually unknown here in the US.

I found an old version of it (recording, not sheet music...sorry!). Is it like 3:00 long? It's nice, but has strings, piano, bass, and vocals (no word enunciation, just humming for lack of a better word...more like aww-ing). I am guessing this is it. I was only able to find ONE (1) website with this even mentioned in it. I.E. your chances of finding this in sheet music form are very, very slim.

Thanks for the info. Yes it is a short popular piece. I guess you could call it "easy listening", but it works really well on the clarinet and has a very nice rhythm. The Franck Pourcel version does not have the vocal part. I suspect it is one of those tunes that achieved some recognition in Europe but didn't make it across the Atlantic. I wonder how many other nice tunes disappear into obscurity.
