 Leblanc Alto CLarinet ???
Author: woodchuck

Greetings,
Did Leblanc ever make an Alto CLarinet that has a neck that is curved like a bass?
Thanks,
Peter.

Somewhere between the classical
and the blues, is the flower
of the indigenous.

I believe it did (does). There is a photo of a pair of altos in my Leblanc picture catalogue. One has the common curve neck, the other one has the swan-curve neck similar to the bass clarinet. Personally I have not yet seen one.

I own a Leblanc alto with a swan curve neck. It's not as pronounced a curve as the bass but still a curve. IMHO it puts the mouthpiece at a more desirale angle than the lesser curve.

I also own a Leblanc alto with the "humped" neck. I bought it cheap on Ebay and it plays like a dream.

Yes, B H and Marcia have it right, I had a large-bore Leblanc Alto cl on back, with a "single-curved" neck which was somewhat uncomfortable to play due to several factors, one of which was the mp angle. I did try a swan-neck horn but opted for a Selmer-Paris A C, for its smaller, better-toned bore, even with its single-curved neck. Just dont play it enough to look for a "swan", I guess. Prob should have saved my $'s , invested in a good B H, and remembered how to transpose AC parts to F [just like playing Bb parts on a C sop]. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don
