 Canteloube's chants d'auvergne
Author: David Oakley

Does anyone know what reeds Joseph Canteloube called for in his Chants d'Auvergne, 2nd series? Some of the passages assigned to the reeds are very lush. I think he's leaning more on double reeds than single, but I'm listening through computer speakers, and am not sure.

The Chants d'Auvergne has LOTS of clarinet solo work.

And some of it is very difficult.

I saw this piece performed by the RI Philharmonic this past October. Yes, there is some very tricky clarinet work, but the piece is absolutely beautiful! One of the movements features some descending piano passages over the orchestra that leave a lump in my throat!
