Hello,
Wondering if anyone here can help out. I am presently using v12 #'s on a 5RV lyre pc, but finding the 3's seem a little lacking in body. The 3 1/2's are also a little woody and stiff for me; any comments on a suitable stength that would split the difference in Zonda's or perhaps Gonzalez reeds? I do not have the time or inclination to work on the 3 1/2s to get them to my liking. SUch is the life of a doubler, I suppose!
Thanks much,
ving

Here are 2 reed strength charts from Vandoren. They are not identical, but will give a general idea to work from.
Phil Shapiro has posted a Gonzalez/Mozart single reed comparison chart on the Davie Cane web site:

The fact that all reed comparison charts are slightly different, reinforces the fact that the measurement of reeds between different brands is far from an exact science...GBK

There is also a reed chart on the Legere site (featuring their reeds in great detail, of course.)
Whether it agreees with other, I'll leave to your research.....

I reacently bot a box of 10 reg. VD's 2 1/2. The only one I've tried so far, after a bit of back-polishing, played very well in chal and clarion on a student's G 8 faced mp/horn, it began to "give out" in the altissimo, where she will NOT go for some time. Her slightly used 3 was too stiff for me, so I included the 2 1/2 and the VD mp/reed info along with the reconditioned plastic cl., with thanx from parent. Just my thots, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
