 Barber's Second Essay for Orchestra
Author: mr. matt

Anyone here ever played Barber's Second Essay for Orchestra, Op. 17? It's a beast of a piece but really great. I'm having some trouble with the solo at the Molto allegro ed energico. The 6th measure is just awful to deal with...anyone have fingering suggestions? I can try and give more information about the passage if no one has played it. Thanks!

I played that piece ages ago and having gone through the Polatschek Advanced studies excerpt from same found it quite playable. I recall that etude took a lot of very slow drill-type practicing. Keep at it, and try a few 1 over 1 first line e-flats (they go by very quickly),a nd be patient, It'll come.
The Bass Clarinet part is also very interesting and very exposed.

Good luck!
