I did a search and found a lot of information about using Legere tenor sax reeds on bass clarinet. Is it possible to go the other way around? I'm just trying to save a little money.

Answer, for me, is yes. But, as much as I like Legeres for clarinet and alto sax, I have yet to find one that is completely satisfactory for bass clarinet if one is looking for optimum sound, with lots of "depth". Better to stick with Vandoren or Grand Concert (I haven't tried Gonzales yet).

Another option to try are the Gigliotti Bass Clarinet Reeds. The cane is very good.
http://www.clarinetworld.com has links to get them from. Also the Hemke Tenor Sax Reeds are quality cane. If you want edge in your tone you could even get the Rico Select Jazz Filed Tenor Sax reeds.

I keep a Legere as a backup for most of my horns, including bass, contra-alto and Bb clarinets, and tenor and bari saxes. As with nearly every brand of reed, tenor sax and bass clarinet reeds are essentially the same size and therefore interchangeable, as are bari sax and contra-alto clarinet reeds (as are alto sax and alto clarinet reeds, for that matter). I agree with Larry -- the Legeres are quite good and very handy to have around, but to get the best sound on the bigger instruments, cane is still #1. On bass clarinet I like Vandorens and Grand Concerts too, as well as Marca, Glotin, Zonda and Rigotti. I haven't tried the Gonzales reeds yet either, but as I have a lifetime supply of reeds already (and know how to scrape them to my liking) I'm not motivated to buy any more reeds!

I am constantly amazed by this question; it really is a testament to the effects of marketing. Think of bass clarinet reeds and tenor sax reeds as you would the Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer. They are 100% identical - the exact same product with different names on the box.

I'm not sure that they're identical. They do have about the same footprint, but I've always felt that the clarinet reeds were more substantial.

Might be identical in some brands, but Vandorens, for example, have quite a different "cut"!

They are not identical. Pretty interchangable, but not identical!
I think also that they have changed somewhat over the years from more or less similar - not sure on that one, but I've seen various opinions about the 2 reed types and some say "yes, some say no"
