Can anyone suggest a source (preferably w/ pictures) for hand/arm/upper body stretches for clarinet players with hurting/fatigued right hands? Many thanks!

I've tried lots of hand stretching exercises. The only thing that works well for me and doesn't leave my hands sore is one I learned from the excellent lute player Lucas Harris:
Make "the sound of one hand clapping" -- that is, hold your hands up, plams facing out and flap your fingers toward your palms. About 20 repetitions loosens everything up very nicely. It doesn't force anything into a position you wouldn't put it naturally, and it's dynamic (the way playing is) rather than static.

With my RA problem I have found that squeezing a SOFT sponge-rubber ball for about five reps short of hurtful seems to be helpful. Tried Ken's flapping and that might work in addition.

They should be performed SLOWLY and stopped before they become painful.
Ken's "one hand clapping" motion sounds like the prelimary warm-up.
My teacher (who plays daily, and often longer than she would like) also minds the flexibility of her elbows and neck, as these are apparently the sites for her tension related pain... pain that she feels in her hands.

FYI - If your wrist already hurts, only rest will provide relief. Deep pain in the wrists and palms can actually be generated from several areas along the nerve that runs up your arm... sites that are often aggravated by clarinet playing.
If you're really sore, now - get hold of a local doc that treats sport related and/or music related injuries.

The repeated motion of grasping a beverage glass will promot relaxation of the.........(but that's another story)
For shoulder/neck pain that occures while I play (usually my right side), I have found that holding my head erect and gently pulling it with my left hand to the left while holding my right arm straight out (to the right) helps stretch the neck area and relieve the tenson pain. I often do this stretch before concerts on both sides and it seems to not only prevent tension discomfort but also relaxes the whole "person" as well.
I've never had much hand or forearm tension pain, but I do drink a lot of diet coke or pepsie................(who know's)
