Does anyone have a lead on where I could find the Ricordi edition of Rossini's "Introduction, Theme and Variations? I've done quite an extensive search for it. If it's not available anymore, what other edition would you recommend?

You've several options.
First and foremost, if you are a member of the ICA and receive THE CLARINET quarterly publication, look in Vol 31, Number 4 (September 2004).
Therein, is the Master Class on rOSSINI'S Into, Theme & Variation. It is presented / authored by Kathy Pope.
She lists the current editions available and then a Master Class on performing the piece; Intro, Theme, Variation 1, 2, 3 and Minore.

Go to woodwinds, clarinet, clarinet sheet music, Bb clarinet and piano (composers M - T). Listed under Rossini are several editions and the pricing.

Thanks, I'll check into the issue containing the master class.
The Dorn Publications site has the Rossini, but it's the Hite edition (Bb and piano). I'm looking for the RICORDI edition. The Ricordi sites have many of Rossini's pieces but not that one any more. Perhaps the Oxford Univ. Press edition is the next best? or someone has an unused one in their attic?

Hey there, I have a copy of the Oxford version. E-mail me and we can work something out (cost free of course). I have used this one, and it is very good. It is edited by David Glazer and the arrangment is by Ralph Hermann.

Contact Gary at Van Cott Services, a BB sponsor, perhaps he can hunt one up / down for you.
Also, Lyben Music has some oldies. If not successful there, they may be able to direct you elsewhere......they did that for me when I ultimately purchaed the 2 volumes of Magnani books (now stocked by VanCott).
There is another source which I don't readily recall. Let me ask my friend / duet partner, the clarinetist, Dr, Charles Aurand.
I'll get back to you.

Ok, I checked out your suggestions. Nobody has the Ricordi edition, not even Eble. So it's not available unless someone has one sitting in their libraries. So I'm settling for the Oxford edition. Now to check out the master class on that...

There's a German edition - I believe "Sikorski."
Patelson's in New York recently had about 50 copies (or more) in their remainder bin - I think they overstocked it. I would have gotten one, but I already have the Glazer edition.
Patelson's has a website - best to call.
Ricordi doesn't list the Theme and Variations in its catalogue - only the Fantasy for Clarinet and Piano.

The Sikorski edition - how's that compare with the other editions? That's the $29.00 edition as opposed to the others that are around the $10.00 range. (Patelson's is selling them for $3.00, I just phoned and placed the order.)
This should be interesting to compare editions with the Oxford that I'm getting. (Couldn't pass up on a deal like that.)

I have a copy of the Sikorski edition. It was given to me by my friend and world class clarinetist, Dr. Chuck Aurand.
In discussing your 'search' with him, he mentioned that this edition is "the finest".
He was a stellar student of Keith Stein and I believe this is the edition Mr Stein preferred.

I have both the Sikorski edition (edited by Jost Michaels) and the Oxford edition (edited by David Glazer).
As expected, many of the articulations are different in the two editions. The Oxford edition has more expressive markings of dynamics and tempi. At times, I feel it has been over-edited.
Personally, I think that the look of the Sikorski edition is far superior. It is cleaner, with a better lay out, and printed on 4 pages, rather than 7...GBK

The Sikorski edition arrived a couple of days ago from Patelson's Music and was promptly put to use. The piece isn't nearly as horrible to play as it sounds on CD, but I'm sure there are minefields in there that I'll discover as I start to polish it.
There are lots more copies available for anyone else to snap up. You can't beat the price.
