I have both an M13 and a B45-13 mouthpiece, amongst others. I see there are other "13" mouthpieces. Can anyone say what the common factor is between them?

I believe that it means that this particular design is intended to be particularly compatible with the Buffet R-13 clarinet.

Dee is correct. These mouthpieces are designed for the R-13 clarinet, but can be used on other instruments as well. Supposedly the are designed to be played in groups that tune to 440. It has a longer and more sloped beak and is supposed to be chambered to sound like the "chedeville". I have tried the M13 and it plays okay, but if price is not an option I would go with one of the hand faced mouthpieces.

As far as I can tell, Dee is right on target. The 13 designation is to tell folks that this equipment works well with the commonly known Buffet R-13 clarinet. I suspect that this equipment would work very well on R-13's "sister" horns from Buffet, like the Festival model, etc.
I also suspect that Mr. Butler's point in the previous post is correct, too.
I have a custom hand faced mp from Borbeck, the Model 13. It's made for my horn (Bb Buffet Festival) to my specs to meet my expectations and to fit my playing level at the same time. What a tone! Wow! This was a pretty serious equipment investment, but I believe it was well worth the money.
