 Berlin Philharmonic Clarinet Position open
Author: DavidBlumberg

I was just updating my Orchestral Clarinet Section and most frequently requested Audition Material list at

http://www.mytempo.com/orchestra.htm

and saw that there is a 2nd Clarinet Opening currently with the Berlin Philharmonic. " One 2nd clarinet with obligation for bass clarinet and basset horn (German system) required piece: Mozart Clarinet Concerto" is what they listed. See my page for the link to it if interested in submissions. The opening is current asof 1-20-05

Just to let you know, the Royal Concertgebouw has two new clarinetists, Arno Stoffelsma, principal, and Arno Pieters, Eb. Perhaps it's not updated on their website?

Müller system? Wow- I didn't know that the Berlin Philharmonic played on period instruments!

Would this requirement refer to an instrument that the Berlin Phil has access to, from a collection for example, or would there be an expectation that auditioners would have access to such a beastie?

The German website http://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/index.php?id=538&L=0 says "deutsches System".

I think "Müller" here is a mistranslation. They simply mean that the player will be required to use German system instruments as opposed to Boehm.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

Of perhaps related interest, I will be attending a Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra concert tomorrow evening (Fri) in the Mitby Theater of the Madison (WI_USA) Area Technical College to hear David Shifrin play the Mozart Concerto on a basset clarinet. This is a rare treat for us clarinetists in the heart of dairyland to hear one of the "best of the best" play Mozart. And tonight, I get to hear Paquito D'Rivera play clarinet with the Assad brothers on guitar. In the Wisconsin Union Theater--for those of you that live close by. However,as of yesterday, most tickes had been sold out.

OK--back to the opening in Berlin--and good luck!!!

Email if you want to know more...

In the English translation section of the web site it sais "Müller system". Correct me if I'm wrong but I think German bass clarinets don't have all the facilities of an Oehler system.

I'm not sure if its on the orchestral jobs site, but I believe an Ensemble Intercontemporain clarinet position is up for the audition. Eb and Bb with some bass/basset horn.

David:
Thanks for your work on the Orchestral Clarinet Section list.
It is a great tool to find other professional orchestral clarinet players. Sections are changing so fast these days, that your list helps us keep track of one another.
Much appreciated,

Thanks John - sorry it took so long to get it updated :)

I just this past week had to replace my hard drive and reload, reinstall, re-register, etc it

But hey, got a real fast computer now from it all. Sort of like getting the car detailed......., but a lot more time consuming ;)

A year or so ago, a friend of mine invited me to sit in on her rehearsal. They were playing a concerto (I think Shaw) with Rivera as the soloist. Ironically enough, we played his quintet, Aires Tropicales. What an awesome experience! He's such a great guy AND player!

David,
Just wondering where your clarinet section list is. I can't find it off of either of your web pages listed. Maybe its just too early in the morning!
Thanks...

It's described pretty well in the Help link how to create a link. I don't know how to describe it better.

It's not ubb, never has been. Look in the Help section for instructions ...

I'm not sure what I was doing wrong but I got it working from copying my signature. Took 2 tries to get it to work and they both looked identical - strange.
