 Wedding Dance

Has anyone played the Wedding Dance? This version is transcribed by Herbert N. Johnston and arranged by Frederick Fennell. Ugh! At measures 63-79, I am having a really hard time getting the tempo faster. For those of you out there who know this band piece, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, or perhaps I should say I have atempted it! Some of it I can manage, but some is beyond me at the required speed. As my conducter (trumpet player) has said "put on your softest reed and let 'er rip"!!

All I can say beyond that is GOOD LUCK!!

Yes I have played the first clarinet part, but our entire band had a hard time playing it up to speed. It is really a cool piece though. [happy]

wow yes this was really fun, i played it at an University's honor band, so i had to learn it in pretty quickly. There were some tricky parts but overall its extremely fun to play. Something about that jewish style just really drives me.

Heh, that'd be really cool if it was. I love Fiddler on the Roof.

Hey, Fiddler on the Roof! My HS band did that for a marching show one year! Ah, memories . . .

I actually have this piece in my folder right now! It is a great piece.. but challenging, definitely. IMHO mm 63-79 are probably the toughest spot in the piece - worst of all, the 1st & 2nd parts are in unison here, so depending on how many you have in your section (we have 4 1sts and 6 2nds) it is a bear to 1. play up to speed and (probably more difficult) 2. play up to speed together!

Our director (also a trumpet player -- what is it with these guys?) usually "encourages" us by letting us know that it "all lays right on the horn."

My only suggestion is to start slow and work up the speed slowly - then pray that everyone else in the section is doing the same.
