 Piazzolla

I want to do a concert with some music of piazzolla but am finding it so difficult to find sources where there is a clarinet involved.

Has anyone any suggestions where I can actually get some music/parts from? The combination of instruments would be designed to fit the piece- a small ensemble possibly consisting of clarinet, piano, bandoneon (or accordion) and maybe a violin or some string of a kind, maybe guitar, I don't know yet till i find some music.

I have recordings featuring clarinet but I just can't seem to find any music to go from.

All the recordings I have involving clarinet- do you think they were private arrangements that haven't been published?....

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

History of Tango - music is available (expensive). Published by Henri Lemoine.

Luyben Music has the following three pieces available:

Clarinet Quartet: Historie du Tango (They list it for 3Bb/Bs, 3rd Cl opt BstHn or Alto Cl. I have played it and the 1st clarinet has an optional Eb part) $65.00

Solo clarinet: Tango Etudes $23.95

Woodwind Quintet: Milonga $27.00

Tonos music at:

https://www.tonos-online.de/shop/index.php?language=en

has a number of works by Piazzolla (search on his name in the "Quick Find" box. Included is his "Contemplacion y Danza" (Score / Clarinet, String orchestra) 18.00 €. Parts are apparently rental.

There are a number of arrangements for solo instrument and piano (and other combinations) at SheetMusicPlus. You could probably transcribe some of these, e.g., "Le Grand Tango" for clarinet (or bass clarinet) as the solo instrument.

Best regards,
jnk

I too would love to find some Tango parts for clarinet. It seems that bandoneon parts could be adapted to clarinet as they are often carrying the melody line. Giora Feldman's "Clarinetango" album is a very interesting listen. I'am guessings that he is playing lines that would usually be played on the the bandoneon. Henri Bok has a duo tango bass clarinet CD out that I would love to hear. Check out his website, he is very friendly and would probably lead you in the right direction. I saw the Imani wids play some of their own transcriptions of Piazzola just last year. You might check out their website as well. They are a really lively, young, fun and wonderful ensemble. They perform interesting new and original works. http://www.imaniwinds.com/music.html.

The ethnic board has has some chatter about tango and there are links to a few free music websites there. Let uas know what you find.

I actually play the sop sax and piano version as a clar & piano piece. It's in the same key! And it's MUCH cheaper than the quartet version.
