when I first got my clarinet a while ago, I thought it just needed to be broken in and greased up, but I just recently found out that the bottom of my clarinet is swollen, they shipped it to me like that... is there a way to fix it?

If it is indeed the wood that has swelled and is catching on the wood of the bell, a tech can shave it down. Better have them make the call too (just in case). Shouldn't be too much.
I think a search on "barrel binding" or "stuck barrel" or something like that will give you an idea (except in this case it's the bell, but it'd the same principle)

Well, bundle it up and ship it right back to 'em (just like that)....
[ love that one, Bob ...maybe we could call symptom of a swollen tenon the "Devil's Toothache" ]

Well Ron, the thing is, what if it's a REALLY good clarinet? Then it'd be a bummer to give it up because of a swollen tenon . . .

its a good clarinet and I really can't afford to send it back... I'll have someone look at It to see if it can be ground down...

I wasn't clear with my opinion, Alexi, and I apologize for that. I meant ship it back so it can be fixed... if the store is warranty-authorized to do the work, fix it in their shop. As you say, it's not a big deal; but the customer should not have to pay extra to make a new instrument functional.

Ah . . . I see. I just misunderstood. IN that case, I agree with ron. If it's warrantied, the seller should take care of it.

Be sure to try your bell on other similar clarinets, and other similar bells on your clarinet to be sure whether it is the bell, or the tenon which is swollen.
