 Does anyone know...

...how I can identify roughly when my clarinet was made. It's a Selmer Signet Soloist....serial #176xx. I've searched the various serial number lists, and can't seem to find this model.

Thanks!

I can't answer your question but I can add to it... I have one with a serial #313xx. I bought it barely used and I love it.

I don't know anything about when it was made and can't find anything about it on the web, though not for lack of trying!

Must be a mystery model :)

It seems re: most of the intermediate [and beginner] cl's, that the best dating comes from other owners who purchased new horns, via ser # estimation/interpolation. Also, for estimating re-sale value, playability, condition and "going" EBAY price exceed age in importance, at least to me. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I don't know whether the Signet Specials and Signet Soloists used the same set of Serial numbers or not.

I have made a rough list for the Specials, and if the Soloists were in the same series, 17000-18000 would have been in the early 50s.

If anyone out there knows for sure when a Signet Special or Signet Soloist was manufactured or purchased new, please e-mail me the details so I can use it to calibrate my list.

The 803XX - 1970 Special fits pretty well into my table of Specials, but obviously the 37795- 1994 Soloist doesn't.

It's looking more like Soloists may have had their own serial numbers, but I still am lacking enough info to be sure.
