I am planning to purchase a Selmer 35 Bass Clarinet and am wondering if I could get some assistance in properly dating and pricing this instrument.
I have searched extensively in the archives and all serial number lists I can find but cannot find any information from Selmer or anywhere else that gives me info on this particular instrument.
Any ideas? Selmer Paris Bass Clarinet, low Eb, serial number in the E7300's. I'm told it's a 1993. The lists I found seem to stop at B, mid 1980's.
Excellent condition, no cracks, repairs, visual wear.
Any thoughts on value or anything else?
All replies appreciated... thanks.
Michelle
(I'm asking to reassure myself that I'm doing the right thing and paying the right price for it)

Date of manufaturer and date of sale are often confused by consumers. A music store can purchase for inventory an instrument and have it in inventory for a period of time before it sells.
A pre-1983 Model 33 has better intonation and key design than the "improved" version that Selmer came out with in '83. This would be the only reason why "age" would be an important factor. The condition of the instrument to me is more important than the age.
As far as value, do a search on completed items on eBay. That will give you some indication as to value. Orion has a blue book service that will give you a report on your instrument. I believe the charge is $10 for a single search, but well worth it if it will save you a few dollars. Most used bass clarinets that I've found for sale have been purchased from school auctions and aren't in very good condition. Also, beware of a "too low" price. The "seller" may not be the "owner".
