 Best Online Music Store

As insomnia hits me tonight, I am wondering what some of the better online stores for clarinet sheet music are. I am going to have my unit buy all kinds of literature, but I wanna find out from all of y'all where you shop at. I like Hickey's myself, but is there something better? Thanks!

Hi,

I tend to use JW Pepper for on-line stuff but sometimes, there is a good bit of time between the time you order on-line and the time when Pepper sends you a confirming email. Also, the in-stock issue is one that can be a problem when there is a significant delay after your email order.

I highly recommend Educator's Music in Lakewood, OH on Detroit. I get stuff from them and the people that answer the phone are knowledgable and professional. Also, the owner in John Stavash, a Michigan clarinet graduate that has experience with one of the service bands in DC. John is an active clarinet player in the CLE area and is a great guy to chat with if you are in CLE and drop by the store (music on one side of the street and instruments on the other).

If you ever get a chance to visit Kansas City, you might want to stop by Luyben Music. His daughter (Annette) runs the shop now and is quite a nice person. You can meet their full-sized poodle that roams the store and head to the back upstairs where the clarinet library is housed. Great resource to pick up not only the standard works right off the shelf (including standard ww quintets and other ensembles with clarinet) but some not so well known stuff as well.

You (anyone) might want to check into Mr. Luyben's clarinet history as well. He was "pretty important" as far as his influence goes. [wink]

If you're in town, you might wanna stop and see Dr. Jane Carl at UMKC (about a mile away). Not only is she a great teacher, she's got a rather intriguing look (attractive!) with her dark hair and light eyes. [right] But talk about a dark sound. WHOA! Watch out Karl Leister!

You may also want to give your local repair shop some business. Granted, you'll have to wait a little bit until they put out an order for music, but it should be the same price, and you can request any publisher you want. They'll do their best to find it, they'll get business, and you'll get a good name so that when you stop by there next time, they'll be more inclined to 'throw in' an accessory or two for a good customer.

My son works at Brook Mays Print Music in Dallas. So, I guess I'll put in a plug for them.
