Hi,

Has anyone played the Lapotnikov Concerto for Wind Ensemble? What an amazing piece! The clarinet part is quite difficult!

Pittsburgh based composer Nikolai Lopatnikoff wrote the Concerto for Wind Orchestra, Op. 41 for the American Wind Symphony. I performed the work with that group in the 60s and, yes it is a real concerto for winds and a great piece. It's at least as great as the Hindemith Symphony for band.

Donald DeRoche and the DePaul University Wind Ensemble have recorded it for Albany records.
