Evette Sponsored By... Help Get Info?
Author: Wynder

Greetings folks...

I have a very old "Sponsored by Buffet" Evette clarinet with a serial number of 6535.

Might someone be able to aid me in tracking down information about the instrument and its value?

Regards,
Rob

Since you have no response so far, I'll try. I've had acquaintance with very few OLD Evettes, believe they were followed by Evette-Schafer, and ?are now? plastic B 12,13 by Buffet. I haven't heard of any date vs ser # listings for them, would guess your's from the 1950's. Even if in good condition, I'd guess its value as minimal. Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Hello,

yes, Evette or Evette-Schaeffer are former brands of the Buffet-Crampon company, now part of The Music Group (for now - there are some rumors that Buffet want to leave the big brother).

I don't know about international strategies, but for some months there are "Evette" Flutes und now and new a "Evette" Alto Saxophone available here in Germany.

The instruments are targeted for low cost / "good" entry level quality and compared e.g. to Jupiter or Expression. I don't play any of them but I can't say anything more about the quality.

But back on topic, these instruments are from "brands" inside of The Music Company. The Flutes are from Buffet or some slogan "Evette made by Buffet" and the Saxophones are "Evette made by Keilwerth".

So it's a "rebirth" of the brand Evette in our times :-) and the only reason is to make more bucks for the investors with low-end-instruments :-(.

Hi Rob,

There has been some discussion of this model on the bulletin board before. Try these links:

http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=58150&t=58080

http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=167595&t=167353

http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=142866&t=142339

You can also try the search engine for this site to search for "Evette sponsored" without the quotes.

For an idea of the instrument's market value, try eBay. Search the current auctions on "Evette sponsored clarinet" without the quotes and search in the text as well as the title. Search completed auctions for "evette clarinet" without the quotes. Here you will have to do some reading to find "sponsored by" examples because sellers often leave that term out of the title and one can only search titles (not text) of completed auctions. I doubt you'll find any selling for more than $100 - $125 -- and some will probably be quite a bit less. By modern standards, this model isn't very desirable, IMO. Also, clarinets this old often need considerable work to put them in decent playing condition.

Best regards,
jnk
