I'm going to order Gonzalez reeds for bass clarinet and Bb clarinet. I want to know the strength I'm going to need. I usually play Grand Concert 2.5 or 3. With the 2.5 most are great at first but get too weak pretty fast, the 3 are usually a little too strong but with some minor adjustments or just playing for a while on them they can be good (this is true for both clarinet and bass clarinet). I thought I need Gonzalez 2.75 but not sure what is the comparison between Gonzalez and Grand Concert.
Does anyone have experience comparing between these two reed brands?
By the way, I'm going to order Gonzalez regular cut if that makes any difference.
Thank you very much.

I am currently playing a mixture of V.12 3.5, Gonzalez FOF 3.5, or Grand Concert Evolution 3. These all feel about the same strength to me. Hope that helps!

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

With questions like this so common, and knowing that many of you are unable to reach me during the day while I'm in the office, I've decided to try an experiment. I've made in IM screen name "Daviecane01" and will make myself available while i'm in the office later at night doing paperwork. I think it must be a good idea because everybody said that I'm nuts to do it! :-)

i used to use vandoren v12 size 4 and they were the just the right strength. I switched to gonzalez(ironically i made a post about having the perfect box of vandorens). I find that even 3.75 gonzalez are a bit too hard and have ordered 3.5's. Though apparantly some people use the same strength, so i think that the comparison could be different for different people.

Phil,

Just be ready for LOTS of messages (and for probably having to answer the same question time and time again). It probably will get annoying after a while. Good luck on it and try to be patient as the word gets out about your screen name.

Thanks.

"IM screen name" means "Instant Messenger" screen name. Available on www.aol.com (AIM meaning AOL Instant Messenger, oft shortened to IM)
