 Neck
Author: Elizabeth

Lately, when I have been playing the back of my neck will start to hurt. It feels as if I'm tensing up. Also when I have my tongue "in position" to play my neck hurts. Hmmm...

What could be the cause of this? And how to stop it from continuing.

Does it happen if you were to practice while standing? It could just be bad posture. Do you read music while this is happening or are you playing scales and other things from memory? If you are reading music, try positioning the music higher/lower. That's all I got.

It could be posture. Have a look at the Alexander technique, it's great for posture. If you neglect pain, it can get serious. You might need something like a Pan clarinet support that takes all the weight off your arm & neck.

but....does it seem to be muscular, vertebra, glands , larynx or just what part of the neck??
