 Excerpt Recordings

I have to send some tape for camp auditions and I was wondering if anyone has any advice for the recording process.

For example, if I were to record excerpts, is it good enough to record on my MD and send my best "take" or should I invest in having a professional do it for the sake of "balance" and good ambiance?

Also, is it wise to record over a several days as opposed to in a few hours?

Thank you. It's my first time and I am not sure how things are done.

The benefit of going to a studio to do it is that you can leave the details of good sound, ambiance, etc. to somebody else while you focus on your playing. The downside is that musicians tend to feel a higher level of stress when the clock is ticking in a pro studio environment. My attitude has always been if you can afford it, go the professional route. It is extremely competitive out there, so why let anything be an impediment to your advancement. With that said, don't make it too polished or the review panel might thing it was edited. Good luck with it.
