Will a good mouthpiece make a diff?

i bought my clarinet on ebay without consulting anyone with knowledge, so now i'm stuck with a steuben clarinet. i hear it's the worst clarinet one could get.

anyway, while a new clarinet is not an option, i was thinking about getting a new mouthpiece. i'm just not sure whether it'll make much difference in the tonal quality.

i've experimented with different reeds and they definitely made differences (some extreme), but alas, i've not much budget to experiment with different mouth pieces.

like i posted below, my clarinet'll only be used for a small church ensamble. please provide with detail (price, i.e.) when you suggest a certain mouthpiece.

Best bang for your buck is still gonna be the Clark Fobes Debut. 25 dollars and is actually a quality mouthpiece.

Vandorens are not too expensive (being around 50 - 60 dollars each), however there is slight inconsistency between mouthpieces of the 'same' model. However lots of people (beginning, intermediate, and I'm sure pros too!) like the Vandoren 5RV or 5RV Lyre. I personally really like the M15, or M13 Lyre.

Those are the more commonly recommended mouthpieces that'll still keep a little green in your wallet.

Yes, a mouthpiece will make a gigantic difference! A good mouthpiece is more important than a good clarinet, and will help dramatically. The Clark Fobes' Debut is good, as is the Hite Premier. Both are very cheap for what you get.

Yes, you need a good mouthpiece--even if you have a wonderful clarinet.

A good mouthpiece will help you with your tone and intonation. You will be able to work on that even on a not-so-good clarinet. You will be able to hear and feel the difference. Clark Fobes debut is good and there are also great Vandoren mouthpieces like the M13 or any of the above mentioned. Maybe with a good mouthpiece that works just right for you, your clarinet will "turn into" a "better" clarinet. I have had that happen. Good luck!
