Okay, I'm a high school student, a junior, and I'm looking for a new clarinet. The one I currently have is an old Yamaha, but it's having some major issues (as in it won't play). Anyway, this Christmas my mom got me a Vito, but said she could take it back if there was something else that I wanted. A friend of mine told me to get a Buffet E-11. I was just wondering if I could get some other people's opinions before I talked about it with my mother. I am in marching band, and I'm planning on playing while I'm in college (in an ensamble, for sure, and in marching band if I go to a college that lets clarinets march. Basically, I won't be in marching band if I go to Ohio State)

Yamahas and Vitos are both quite popular in my hometown, CFEaglette. Either one, in good working order, should be good for many years. Vitos are notoriously tough, stand the rigors of novice players very well, and their intonation is good too. I have one that I use frequently to play duets with students and it has served me well for over two years with no maintenance problems whatsoever. In my opinion it's about as trouble free as they can possibly make 'em.
If you plan to go for serious ensemble or concert playing, you might want to upgrade but, personally, I'd be very content with a good ol' Vito any day of the week.
