 Airflow exercices?

Hi,
Happy new year to all, though 3 days later. Special cheers for the Roosters, those of you born in 1957, 1969(me) and 1981.

As some of you might remember, I have this LEFT thumb problem+possible neck disk, and quit practising as I used to do only 2 weeks ago.
However, I'd like to practise airflow building.
With only G (so no need to use fingers), I practiced Langenus I, part 1 where there are 'articulation' exercise and 'piano-forte/cres.-decres.' exercise. With these I can spend one half hour, and contrary to what I dreaded first, it's not boring at all!

Any other suggestions regarding airflow exercises?

This is really funny but it's helped me so much.

My techer regularly brings in all sorts of toys and stuff to lessons, and one thing he broung once was those plastic thingos made to look like pipes (i.e for smoking, you know) but they have a ball in the end and as you blow through it the ball floats.

Buy a pack of them, should be extremely cheap, and practice holding the ball at certain heights, or making it slowly go up and down. This helped me with dynamics and legato.

I had that 'pipe-like gadget' 10 years ago.. lost it.. Well, perhaps I'll ask some local accessories dealer if they still sell those.

I just got mine from the party supplies aisle at the supermarket. Was $1 for a 4-pack.

The Breath Builder might be better. http://www.windsongpress.com/breathing%20devices/Use_Devices.htm. At $18.95, the cost is not outrageous. http://www.windsongpress.com/order%20frame.htm.

Another non-playing exercise is to use the method taught by the great oboist Fernand Gillet to learn difficult finger combinations. See http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=158484&t=158204.

Finally, you might try Gonzalo Ruiz's "use your muscles to lift your fingers, not put them down" exercise http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=160752&t=160676.

Ken,
The breath builder is the aforementioned 'thing' that I had 10 years ago.
Thanks for the former threads. I'll take time to read those through.
