Does anyone know of a company or music store that offers a reed sampler? I know Vandorens offer "two packs" for four or five dollars. This I guess is to try out their reeds and help see what strength you need. I was wondering if someone sells some sort of sampler. A bit of this brand, a bit of that brand, etc. It just seems almost 'stupid' that I should have to be forced to spending 60 bucks or so to try out three different brands to see the differences in the thin/thick blanks, brand-wise, etc.

Giving away free reeds is part of the cost of doing business, and some companies are quite generous.
Going to one of the major gathering places for dealers (ex: Clarinetfest, Band Association/Music Educator's conventions, etc...) is a perfect place to sample different brands on display.
You could also try writing, or calling the major reed companies to see if you can get a few samples to try.
(Ex. - The very nice people at Canyes Xilema sent me a generous number of free boxes in varying strengths and cuts, when I inquired about trying their reeds. I was quite impressed when a large box from Spain arrived at my house, along with a personal note of thanks)
At one time, Phil Shapiro (Davie Cane) would make up a "sampler" box on request, for those not sure of what strength Gonzalez reed to try...GBK

That sounds all and good GBK, however you are a professional. Who teaches lessons and so that have NOTHING to lose and EVERYTHING to benefit from you liking, using, and recommending their reeds.
Do you honestly think that these companies would indulge a mere student like myself?

phil shapiro sent me a lot of reeds, different styles and strengths of Gonzalez reeds. However i think he said they wre leftovers from the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium(not sure if thats what they call it). But that doesnt relaly matter, reeds are reeds, he sent them, very nice guy. And im a senior a high school, a mere student too. I'd say give it a try first before assuming u wont get any help.

I guess I should take my own advice that I give so often in the sense that it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks for the advice in contacting them. Here I go . . .

I thought about doing this some years back (mixing between different manufacturers and strengths & reselling) but I'd have to mark up the prices to compensate for labor & re-packaging. A quick survey showed me that no one would even be willing to pay 20% over the on-line prices for me to do it, and 20% would mean I was doing it for free ...
