 DePaul University

Does anyone out there know much about the clarinet program at DePaul University? I know Larry Combs teaches there, as well as Julie DeRoche and some other person. This year, I'm applying to transfer to DePaul next fall, but I'm not sure how their music program is. I visited their campus this past summer, and I fell in love with the area the school is in. I was also thinking about possibly transferring to either IU-Bloomington, Florida State, Eastman. I have to get out of my current school, Northern Arizona University, it's a music hell. So, if any of you out there have info about DePaul or the others, let me know!

Please forgive my ignorance. I've never heard this term before. What is a "music hell" ?

(music hall?)

Why would you even start considering transferring to any of them without already having the information you are asking for? More importantly, you named four very strong clarinet programs with rigorous audition requirements. Are you a music major? Have you discussed this with Mike Sullivan? I'm sure he could give you some useful perspective about which direction to take your clarinet studies if your talent exceeds NAU's ability to develop it.

In direct answer to your question, all four schools have produced a number of exceptional clarinet players. The quality of the graduates is the best measure of any school, so judge them on that basis.

Ron -- "music hell" is that place where you spend an eternity forced to listen to Charlotte Church accompanied by Yanni, with Kenny G taking solos every 10 minutes.

Personally I'd do IU-Bloomington for undergrad and one of the others for your Masters.

I'm an undergrad at FSU if you have any questions regarding our program i'd be happy to talk to you. We also have grad students here from IU and Eastman...

Wagner Campos is the teacher at DePaul you did not name.
I'm an undergrad at DePaul and if you have other questions about DePaul's program and want to get some facts, you can definitely talk to me.
