Best reed care/adjustment etc guide on board

Ok this is another one of my dumb questions. Can anyone give me a link to (in their mind) the best reed care/adjustment, rotation, knife, guide on the board? I really have no idea how to take proper care for my reeds(and adjust them)( I just started copying what the first chair clarinet player does in my band with her reeds and it starting to make a HUGE deferance).

look for a recent posting by GBK on the vandoren glass reed adjustment system thingie (I THINK that's the actual name . . . not sure though . . . )

Another popular one would be to search for the ATG system (developed by Tom Ridenour).

Between those two you should learn a lot and get soem good ideas.

Each of us has a "best" way which is better than the other guy's. You'll find all the tips scattered if you search. I still believe that you've got to get the back side(the side that touches the mp) flat first and I've adopted one other poster's suggestion of rubbing the reed backside, sans tip, on a mill bastard file as a first step. I then polish the backside including the tip on an extremely fine white "sandpaper" named Super Film marketed by Houston Art Inc. Houston TX Item #612 ...a fabulous product that is finer than 1000. I finish off the back side by rubbing on either Acrylics Palette Paper or rice paper. Balancing the front side is another chapter and is covered thoroughly in some book I have but I forget the name or author.

I second what BobD said....I had spotty results adjusting reeds until I started making sure the bottom was smooth and all the warping was done...then the real adjusting can start...I pretty much follow the directions David Pino lays out in his book. By the way, I use old style typing paper for my fine sanding ....polishes the underside quite nicely!

Brandon, that's an awesome link! Charlie Stier's book is wonderful and I'm actually surprised that he has it up on the web for free! Their Studio policies are really good too.
