How much is my vintage Selmer worth?
Author: Bill61

I have two vintage Selmer Clarinets, I am just getting started cleaning them up, one is a B flat, the other is an A clarinet. I am curious as to thier value, the serial numbers indicate they were made in 1929, or there about. anyone hav any ideas as to how much they are worth? I am a midling player, I have not played regularly since college in the early 80's, I switched to sax as my primary instrument then. I am certain they are good instruments, but not currently playable

What model are they? Look at the logo and see what it says besides Selmer.

Condition is very important in determining the value of these old clarinets.
They go for anywhere from $100 - $1000 per instrument in internet auctions.

If they are fundamentally sound (no cracks, crisp logos, decent original case, etc.), you can get them a top quality overhaul for about $400 and they will then be worth approximately $800 to $1000 each in an auction.

Fundamentally sound, but need overhaul, about $200 - $400 each.

Cracked, worn etc. $100 - $200 each. (I picked up a cracked and banded K Series for $71 plus shipping)

If they are a matched pair sometimes this will bring a premium to certain buyers. Try to keep them together.

Disclaimer: I am by no means an expert, or an appraiser. These are strictly my opinions based on several years of auction watching.

So am I NOT, J O J, I just subscribe to BLASH in stock trading, Buy Low And Sell High. In an up-scale pawn shop, I bot my uncracked Selmer R I, F B, 1932, for $150, its a "fair" player, my CT is better. Check EBAY , Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

If made in 1929, check to see if the are High Pitch or Low Pitch (the latter is our modern pitch standard). High Pitch cannot be played in a modern ensemble. 1929 is in the time frame when both standards were in use.
