Hello! I'm hoping someone here can help me....
I have a Selmer Series 9 Full Boehm system clarinet that is missing 1 key. The missing key is the auxillary (left hand) Ab/Eb lever. I checked with Selmer Elkhart and a very nice man there, Gary Devore, looked high and low for me for months just to find a part number for the key or to see if the same key from a newer model (Series 10, Recital, etc.) would fit my Series 9. The problem is, he was unable to find the key on any of the in house instrument drawings for any model and he could not find me a part number for any model having that key.
I'm a repairman and I have access to one of the largest repair shops on the west coast. Even we did not have any information on the key or a key off a "junker" instrument. I seem to have reached a dead end! I could construct a new key from pieces of others, but I would prefer an original Selmer part (I can dream, can't I?) Can anyone help?
Again what I need is:
1. The alternate Ab/Eb left hand key for a Series 9 Bb clarinet or...
2. The part number for the same key from another Selmer model so that I can order the key and see if it fits my instrument.
I know that many players remove this key because they feel that it gets in the way. Maybe you have one in your case??
Best regards to all!

Frank,
You might try John Butler. He's one of the sponsors of this board. He has an instrument restoration business (called Instrument Restoration) and I highly recommend him. There are also several other restoration experts on the board that might help you.

Rite, Brenda, I bot a used bass cl 60-70's Selmer 30-33, a 3/4 Full Boehm, which lacked the "finger" on the B/F# [Bb/F?] pad/key part on the L J to close the artic. C#/G# pad. I went to my friends, McGuires, in Tulsa who went to Wayne Stuart, now at Brook-Mays {Larsens} in OKC, who had Selmer manuals. He ordered it from Sel - FR [have its #'s], it took several months ! Being somewhat impatient, I had W S make [s -solder on] a temporary finger, which is still in use, along came the part at $50, anyone need one ?? It bears no # on it. I thot about pulling the Ab/Eb keys off my 1920 and 1932 Sel [RI] FB's and [sim] my 1954 CT [17/6] to see if they had #'s, but wont unless you ask. So thats it, FWIW, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

I also have a Series 9 Bb Selmer clarinet. A couple of days ago the left hand Ab-Eb key broke on it, and now I too am looking for a replacement.
Actually the key had been broken before by a previous owner and had been soldered back together, but I would like to get a new one if such a part exists.
Please post an update if you are able to find one, or get one made.
Thanks
Ken

If it is WELL repaired, with the appropriate silver solder, then the join is stronger than the surrounding metal. If care is taken and the finish replated if necessary, then the end result is zero cosmetic damage.
