I'm having fun playing some gems with a small combo and a vocalist---we are trying the great Lerner/Loewe classic "Show Me" from My Fair Lady.
What is a good source of arrangements for gems such as these? Should we try "Fake Books?" It is a lot of fun to solo over the changes in such a tune---any suggestions?

I suggest that you get some recordings of singers working in a small ensemble with horns. Nancy Wilson's album with the Cannonball Adderly Quintet is a bit on the modern side, but a good illustration of the kinds of arrangements you can have with a small band, and the kinds of things that are good to play behind a singer. Billie Holiday's early sides with Lester Young, Benny Goodman, Teddy Wilson, etc. are considered by many to be the text book for this kind of thing.
When vocalists are featured on shows like "Riverwalk Jazz" you'll probably get some good ideas from what those guys do.
I doubt that you're going to find arrangements. Fake books are definitely your best bet.

Check out Dorn Publications, Saxophone Journal for a masterclass CD
on accompanying a singer.........Vol.28, No.1. This is an excellent approach
to developing your performance techniques in this area.
Good luck, Martin
