I'm going to be performing Mendelssohn's Concertpiece #2 with my community band in the spring. Can anyone suggest a reliable fingering for the G at the top of the run in the final presto of the 2nd solo part (G major scale)? F# with the added side key is quite flat, but 1-3-1-3, which speaks easily and in tune, is not easy to get that fast. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks

2-1-3 like when you play the f# then add the first 2 fingers of your right hand. pretty standard fingering. i know there are a lot of possible fingerings for the high g, but they really aren't that important. being able to manipulate the pitch and color is more important and practical than memorizing a whole bunch of awkward fingerings.

The most intune fingering I know for high G is like the lowF/midC fingering- minus the index finger of your left hand. If I remember this piece correctly you hold the G for quite a long time, don't you? This means tuning is imperative.

I have the following fingerings for G:
2-1,2(my preference); 2,3-1,2; 2-1st Side Key;2-sliver bflat key top joint; 1 only; 2,3-1,2,3; 3,G# key. All of these with a pinky key to bring into tune as required. As I stated my preference is the 2-1,2 with the E flat pinky. I find this to be in tune for me. This works well for running a chromatic up or down to C.
