 Contemporary Concerti
Author: clarinetist04

Hi all,

I am a clarinetist in Pittsburgh and I am looking for contemporary concerti. Let me clarify! I am really in search of unpublished concerti for clarinet and band, but also with orchestra. I am reaching out to the clarinetists on this board to find out if anyone out there has anything that they would be willing to send me a copy of or if there are any suggestions of people who could help me. Thanks for the assistance!!

On a different note, has anyone heard of the composer, John Heinz? He wrote a concerto for clarinet and band that is SPECTACULAR!! It is very, very difficult and the only place I know of that has a score of it is the Navy Band library who can't send me a copy because they don't have an address to ask Mr. Heinz permission.

Best,

Robert

Robert ... you'll come up against copyright issues with your specific criteria ... having said that, they are not unsolveable. Most composers (except those profoundly famous ones [Glass, Nyman, etc]) would be thrilled to get their works performed most of the time.

why exactly, are you searching for unpublished works?

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

Probably the best place to look is the Fleischer Collection at the Free Library of Philadelphia. They specialize in rare and little known contemporary music.

Since you're in Pittsburgh I suggest you contact Robert Austin Boudreau of the American Wind Symphony about the Henk Badings Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Band.

If it's as good as his Flute Concerto it will be spectacular.
