Mr. Daniels will be in concert Sunday, February 6, 2000 with the Houston Youth Symphony and Ballet. The performance will be held at Rice University. I thought some of you might be interested. I found this information at www.jazzhouston.com

I still remember how well he played [with standing applause] right here in River City, and treasure the after-concert talking with him and our local cl'ists. Don

Don, I bought the tickets that let me go to the after-show
champagne and "meet the artist" mixer. I'm going to take my BREAKTHROUGH LP to get it autographed ( I bought it in '85 when it was released.) I hope that doesn't seem too juvenile.

This a not-wuite complete list of what we (HYS&B) will be playing:
Gershwin - Three Preludes, Short Story (only recording i know of these works in this arrangement is on Stoltzman's recording of the Copland, Bernstein, and Gershwin arrangements)
Jeff Beal - Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble (some jazz concerto with really sparse orchestra parts and a sax combo... haven't heard the solo clarinet part yet but i hope it's better than the accompaniment)
Copland - Billy the Kid
some jazz charts with Eddie soloing
And the strings are playing something by Vivaldi.
I'm playing bass on the Gershwin stuff and the Beal.
Eddie is also doing a masterclass at Rice University the day before. I will get back with you guys on the time.

Daniel, this must be exciting for you. Are you playing bass
as in stand-up bass or bass clarinet?
What a great class that would be to sit in on. I'd call in sick to go to that--shhh, don't tell my boss.

Bass clarinet. I can't play stringed instruments to save my life.
I met Eddie at the Ohio ClarinetFest. Not the kind of guy i'm too terribly excited to play with. But boy can he play. It will be interesting to see how he presents himself in the masterclass.
