Awesome news... well to me anyways

My school is now starting a clarinet choir... WHERE THE CLARINETS ACTUALLY WORK TOGETHER AND DON'T FIGHT! *SHOCK*/*AMAZEMENT*
Anyways, we have 4 sopranos, 2 basses, and 1 contrabass... The thing I like the most about it is 1. There's no chair placement, so people aren't fighting over parts... 2. You can actually hear each part, and there is no one to cover you up... Therefore, making you a better player... and 3. It's run by a senior that everyone listens to, and so no one is fighting WHICH AMAZES ME!

I'm so happy! Except for my reeds which y'all already heard about... haha

Awesome! You have fun at that. Hopefully the school that I transfer to in the future will have one that I can join.

I hope you enjoy it. I play in a flute choir that is run much the same way. We play different parts all the time and have a bass and alto flute in the group. Everyone just enjoys it and we don't get competitive over parts.

Have fun!

Welcome to the wonderful world of chamber music! Nice that a high school has a clarinet choir; wish mine had had one.

I'm also in an excellent (university) clarinet choir, in our third semester (concert this coming Friday). The parts are cycled around per piece, and there are chances for different people to play the specialty instruments each semester. There are 13 of us this semester (contra, 2 bass, 1 alto, 8 Bb, and me newly on the Eb... all but the contra also play Bb in some pieces).

Infighting in my experience is significantly lower in chamber music, I think, because if anyone is upset about anything, it's when someone doesn't know their part. Each part is important in chamber music, and everything SOUNDS important... it's the (untrue) perception of unimportance in many ensembles that I think creates friction.

Reed trouble is just a red herring.

We have something like that, except it's for brass players.

Both our directors play brass instruments.
