 X-Concerto clarinet rock solo

Does anyone happen to know if there is a recording of anyone playing the X-concerto? (I think thats how you spell it, maybe no - ) My teacher played it about half a year ago, and I would like a recording but can't find anything about it. I forget who wrote it, and I can't find the program from that concert or anything online about it at all. It's a very different piece, rather recent I think.... The first movement has you mimic the sounds of a wailing electric guitar by repeatedly pressing keys that change the pitch by only 20 cents or so. (I know someone knows what I'm talking about cause there are other pieces you do this in too.) If I remember correctly, the second mvmt is like a power ballad. Its mostly a lyrical melody played in the clarion range first (i think), then way up in the super altissimo range. I forget how the third mvmt goes. I think the entire piece is based on the sounds of 80's rock. Correct me on any of this info if I'm wrong, it has been quite a while since I heard the piece. Thanks

You are referring to Scott McAllister's "X", a work for clarinet and piano ,or wind ensemble, or string orchestra. It is a terrific piece, and is based on the music of Nirvana. I would assume from your email address that you are a student of Kris Belisle at Akron - she did a great performance of "X" at the ClarinetFest in Salt Lake.

I don't know of any commercially available recordings, but perhaps Dr. Belisle has her CD from the conference. I have a recording that Scott sent to me of Charles Neidich doing it with orchestra. You could try contacting him (he has a website, I believe it is lydmusic.com - you may need to do a Google search).

Incidentally, his latest clarinet work is "Black Dog", based on the music of Led Zeppelin. Another great piece.

Thanks for the info. :)
and yes, I am a student of hers, nice assumption. I'll be sure to ask her about that since I can't seem to find it anywhere else. I will also look into that new piece as well, sounds interesting. Thanks again.
