Hello fellow clarinetists. I've been looking at Capriccio for some time and there are some confusing things in here, I have some questions.
On the 28th measure, (the measure with a forte and Con eleganza at the end) The notes I have from beginning to end read: Db, Bb, Gb, Eb, D(natural), Bb, G(natural), Gb, Db, Its confusing because it was written unclearly. Could you please check if this is right?
This also repeats before the Poco rubato.
Does anyone know where I can get a recording of this?
Thank you

There is a recording by Karl Leister that I know of that you can find on amazon.com. It is not currently available, but there are used ones occasionally, so if you are lucky, you might find one. I'm not sure of any other recordings, though there may be one...

There are many confusing notes in this pieces. I believe that the notes should be Db, Bb, Gb, Eb, D natural, Bb, Gb, G natural and D natural. The tune in bar 29 (with the 2 pickups) comes back many times and the first 2 notes are always G natural and D natural-see bars 33, 35, 40 etc.

Thanks a lot everyone, I am going to play this for my interlochen summer camp audition. Do you think its a good choice?
I just heard the recording from amazon played the way you said emlmo lewis.
This piece does have a lot of character, I just love playing this piece. I love contrasts and phrasing and all those weird measures of 3/16 and such.

I totally agree with you! I really get excited about playing this piece. You're playing it on A clarinet right? I think this is the biggest issue for me just because its the first time Ive done anything on A.
The contrasts between sections is wonderful! I feel like I can put a lot of personality into playing it...haha...I just love this piece...:)

I've always played it the way Elmo describes. The only recording I have is from my Junior Recital (in 1988)...
I can't remember whether there were recordings available in the music library when I worked on the piece. I seem to remember there being one, but that's way too many years ago to remember who it was!

You should try playing it on bass clarinet- it suits the timbre on the instrument brilliantly!

Did you transpose it to Bb or play it as written? Or is there a version in Bb? I bet playing it on bass Clarinet sounded awesome.

Im playing it on a Bb clarinet, and the part wasnt transposed, its for. Is it ok if I play it on a Bb clarinet? Becuase I dont think I have to time to find an A clarinet and record it becuase I am recording pretty soon.

Good luck on doing Capriccio!! I too love this piece. Leister plays it kind of .... well, .... too nicely. I like it to play it with a little (a little more than a little) sarcasm, making a lot of the contrasting styles and the notes he wants played. I think Mr. Sutermeister wants us to have a little wild fun with this piece.
