Mouthpieces

I dropped my mouthpiece after an orchestra performance the other night and now it seems to play differently. There are now a few more nicks in it, but there seems to be no apparent damage. I was wondering what everyone's take on this is and also:

If I am to buy a new mouthpiece, what would you all recommend? My current ?broken? mouthpiece is a Ridenour Encore and I like it alrght. Thanks!

If you can see it, it must be there. Even the smallest scratch, bevel, or mark of any description can cause a change in performance (usually bad) if it is located where it can break the seal the reed must make with the mouthpiece for good tone production. Even non-perctable alterations will affect the way your mouthpiece plays.

So, there are two choices: 1) have your damaged mpc refaced and hope for the best; or 2) (my preferrence) buy a new mpc that plays the way you need it to play.

BTW--I also know Copland. Dan--he was a trombone player in my school band.

You may have distorted the table invisibly but noticeably playingwise.

I suppose you have a couple of options :-

1) email Tom Ridenour at <rcproducts@att.net> to stick with what you know and ask about replacing/refacing, quoting any reference numbers still visible.

2) take a little time and try the field.

Plenty info here on a search for mouthpieces.

Personal experience of, and delight with Peter Eaton and Walter Grabner mouthpieces, (in no way retained to say so - just a happy punter.
Both are sponsors here.

I actually the broke the beak of my Peter Eaton m/p a week before Rach 2 and Peter sent me a few similarly spec'd m/p's immediately. Got a better one than I had - didn't think it was possible - so it can be a blessing in disguise sometimes - devastating though !!

Needed to replace my favorite Charles Bay as well. After a search of this bulletin board I bought a Vandoren M30 with which I couldn't be happier.
