I received a Movado watch as a gift recently. I love the watch, but I notice it feels heavy on my hand when I play the clarinet. Would a leather rather than a metal band be preferable? Have others used even heavier watches like Tag or Rolex when performing?

Maybe you can get a neck strap and attach it to the watch band.
You could get little helium balloons and tie them to the band.
I wonder if the leather band would help create a "darker "tone.
I have always had trouble keeping proper time while playing. Maybe a new watch would help.

on a serious note
I use a Timex watch on a cloth velco type band. I wear it on my left hand and it does not bother me. I would expect some degree of effect if worn on the right hand since it already has plenty to do.

I wear a Rolex and have worn it for years while performing. Once you get used to it it's not a problem.

As with most slight weights, your wrist will adjust to it. It feels heavy now, but your left (or right, depending on which hand it's on) hand will become stronger to accomodate for this.
As for myself, I wear a fairly heave Fossil watch, but am awaiting the day that I call someone and have a custom gold pocketwatch made for myself. I've always wanted one, and I want it to be unique and something that hopefully in the future I can pass down as a family heirloom.

Athletes often run with weighted spats to strengthen muscles, then of course compete without the spats so their feet "feel lighter".
Maybe clarinetists should practice wearing four Rolexs (two on each wrist and then remove them for performances. Hmmm, we could extend this to weighted rings for strenghthening fingers. I smell a patent.
Usually when I have an idea like this, I find that someone is already selling it.

I don't wear a watch, but I wonder if the wedding band on my left ring finger causes problems with G-A/C-D trills, and if I remove the ring, will I be able to get a date with the cute oboist?

I too switched to a pocketwatch years ago. Unfortunately, it stopped winding. Now I have a little watch that clips onto a belt loop. With it, I don't have to pull it out of my pocket. Everybody wins.

Thanks GBK for the Borge...the guy was fantastic. In answer to wjk I would mention that really important people don't even wear wrist watches since they could care less what time it was. If you are trying to impress your co-players then my all means wear the watch while playing......or sell it on eBay and buy a Rolex or one of those deep sea diving watches that are even heavier and noticeable. But certainly a Rolex is always impressive....even if it's a fake one.
