I'm brand spanking new to the clarinet. I am going to be getting one and I see Bb, C, A and others on some sites. Some are straight and some are curvey like a sax. Can someone tell me which type of straight clarinet will play the lowest notes, because that's the kind I want to get.
I think and hope that was clear enough.

well most people get the Bb... the curvy ones you see are bass clarinets, they're the one's that get the lowest notes (well kind of, you could get a contra bass, DON'T YOU DARE DO THAT)... But start off with Bb, then get acquainted with the others, if you care to... well I'm off to do homework.. haha... hope that helps...

Bb is the standard Clarinet. Why the preference for the low? Bass Clarinet is a lot of fun, but if you're just starting on the Clarinet, Bb is more realistic from a learning and price standpoint.

If you want to play low notes, like I do, then the ones taht ook like long saxaphones are the ones for you. a Bb bass clarinet or an Eb alto clarinet if you want a challenge. Now, if you REALLY want some low notes, I'd recommend going with a contra-alto clarinet (my preference) or a contrabass clarinet. Those two options will set you back considerably, though.
If you want a straight one that plays low notes, try to find a Bb with a low Eb key. That's the closest you can get.

first thing to do is find a good private teacher to get you started right, and get you pointed in the right direction as to equipment.
find a teacher first, then use their recommendations when accquiring an instrument, mouthpiece, ligature, reeds, etc.
most students start on a b-flat soprano, only moving to a larger instrument after that basics of the Bb has been mastered
and don't buy a horn from sears, wall mart, sam's club, etc. see recent thread on that subject.
