i currently play a selmer bundy eefer (the plastic one), and it's incredibly in tune for all notes under the altissimo fingerings. However, anything above that, it's super super out of tune. I checked with a tuner, and i was not even talking about being off by cents, but by a chromatic! HOw could i possibly lip up or down a chromatic? And that's not that ony problem. Sometimes, the note may be half a step higher, and on another note it's half a step lower. How could i possible do all those adjusting?????

Does anyone have any ideas how to play those high notes in tune? Am i supposed to make up my own fingerings? Help.

Yes; make up your own fingerings! What ever figering sounds best at a given time for that note should be the fingering you use, even if it is unorthodox and not in a book. As long as you can make it work technically, and it makes you sound better, go for it.

In general, it is good to know several or more different fingering for each altisimo note, so you will have more options available.

Any fingering is justified if it is simple enough to be practicable and if it gives good pitch and good quality - Alan Sim

For some Eb clarinet fingering ideas look in Peter Hadcock's "Orchestral Studies for the Eb clarinet" ...GBK

When you play F and F sharp are you using the closed fingerings?

thanks for the previous advice!

what do you mean by closed fingerings? i use the conventional one, ones found in fingering charts. it'll take some time before i'll be able to make my "own" fingerings

F can be played with all fingers covering holes (but not c/f key downwards), and the g/c sharp key open. On my e flat this is in tune, whereas two fingers and side key is very flat. To get F sharp do the same but taking off the bottom finger.

Finger a G# and lip it down a bit more?

Yep. Lots of soprano harmony instruments have this issue (Eb's, C's, D's). I have a Bundy Eb, and standard practice is to finger a half note higher and lip down. (Gak!)

On the other hand, it was only $100, and that was a good price for as often as I use it.
