I am interested in buying an A clarinet. I currently have a Bb Concerto by Leblanc that was manufactured in the late 90s. I was wondering what A clarinets have the best intonation and which are the best for orchestral playing. I love my Concerto, so I'm wondering if an Opus by Leblanc might be something I should consider. Thank you very much for your input!

As i'm sure you'll see the next 10 posts say, check out searches on here about these topics, and go try out as many as you can, LeBlancs, Buffets, Selmers, etc.

I bought my Concerto A in 1994 because it played so much better than my Buffet R13 in terms of eveness between registers and control of intonation, particularily above B5. For a while, I continued playing my R13 Bb with the Concerto A. Then, two years later, I re-visited the LeBlanc facility in Kenosha, WI. (just to "try out" some clarinets) and found a Concerto Bb that I "just had to have". Short story--if you like your Concerto Bb, you will probably fall in love with a Concerto A. They may be the best playing A clarinets on todays market.
