Author: Roger Merriam

The Woodwind and Brass Wind (www.wwandbw.com) advertises a the Partricol CL 2 as a professional clarinet. It has silver plated keys and they offer to sell it for less than $1600.
Anyone know anything about this brand clarinet

I bought a key of C Patricola from the ww and bw and am very happy with it. Perhaps some intonation problems in the lower register, but I am very amateur so it may be me or my mp rather than the clarinet, and it is fine for the music for which I use it. People like the sound I get out of it. Make sure the ww and bw adjusts it for you before they ship it; there were snafus with mine and I had to get the middle joint mechanism adjusted to make all the pads close and the 1 + 1 Bb/Eb work simultaneously.

Try www.patricola.it I have been happy with these instruments in the past and apparently they are considered to be the favorite clarinets of professionals in Southern Europe and Japan. Hope that helps.

I bought a new Patricola A clarinet that had been improved by Charles Bay. When I was shopping I must have tried 15 A clarinets: Selmers, Buffets, Yamahas. Except for Bay's Patricola they either sounded good or played in tune, but not both. I am very happy with my A, and would like to get a new Patricola Bb someday.

I've played Patricola's Bb and A clarinets at several conventions i've been to. They are too woody and a bit bright for my tastes. Me personal view is that they would be great for solo playing not blending in a section of an American orchestra or band.
Their Eb clarinet is the best i've ever played (except for the occaisional stuffy horn). They have great projection and gorgeous crystal clear tone. I'm having Stephen Fox make an Eb based on their specs, with some modifications.
