 children's orchestra "song"
Author: Paul Van House
Date:   2000-01-14 16:30

My daughter (18-year old music major at Texas Tech) does not believe me when I tell her of a song about orchestras I learned as a child. Unfortunately I've been unable to find the words (or the music!)
The song has several verses, each with different notes and were meant to be sung in harmony to mimic the sounds of the various instruments.
The clarinet verse goes "The clarinet, the clarinet goes doodle-oodle-oodle-oodle-ette". There were verses for the drum, the horn and others.
If you know the words, the music, or where I could obtain a recording, I'd be forever grateful. This would make a great birthday present!

Thanks!

Yes, I remember this. I cannot for the life of me, tell you the name of this piece or the composer. In fact, a short version of this was done on the Dick VanDyke show with Mary Tyler Moore, Mory Amsterdam, etc. Maybe If you did it at school, you could hunt down one of those teachers. Even If retired, thay sometimes keep in touch with the school for reunion purposes.

My wife did that tune last year with her wind band. Give me a few days (to remember to ask her) and I'll email them to you. Hopefully, she still has it.

you could also possibly watch "you've got mail" because i think they all stand around piano and sing it. that would give you at least some of the words....good luck!

Dear Paul,
Some of the music for this piece is contained in a clarinet tutor, Enjoy Playing the Clarinet, by Ruth Bonetti. The only lyrics I remember are for the clarinet, the violin, ("the violin's sing-ing goes la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.")(read the upper C part in the book for that one) and the horn. ("the horn the horn it sounds so forlorn.") (all played on the dominant, I think.)
That's the best I can do.

Oh, I forgot to mention... the name of the piece in the tutor is "Concert" (how original!) by W. Geissler (1886.)
By the way, I have heard the clarinet verse also sung as: "the clarinet, the clarinet, goes doodle doodle and the inside's wet."!!
