For all big band and Benny Goodman scholars, here are the complete holdings of the Benny Goodman collection which is at the Music Library at Yale University.
It is interesting to look at the details of all the arrangements of the tunes played by Goodman and his band(s).
The original instrumentation, year written, key, arranger, and any miscellaneous information (missing parts, photocopies, penciled revisions, etc...) is listed for each tune in Benny's book. It is amazing how many charts (some in multiple versions/keys) his band had.
Who would have known, that in their books, Benny's band carried around arrangements of Stars and Stripes Forever, Spinning Wheel, or Sunshine of My Life?

Wow--that's impressive.
(And just goes to proving my own personal theory that if I play more notes than the next guy, I will eventually hit more right notes as well!!)
But seriously, All Hail, the King of Swing and the legacy He leaves all of us.
(most of his notes were good)

I have a list from the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain journal, very kindly sent by Michael Bryant, of all of Goodman's classical recordings. I can make a PDF if Mark will tell me where to post it.

Thanks GBK, certainly a worthwhile reference. Although he had his human quirks like all of us his contribution to "clarinet" is at or near the top of the list....

Didn't he record "Sunshine of my Life?". I'm thinking maybe the Carnegie Hall 40th Anniv. or "Let's Dance Again." Anybody know?
(or am I thinking Sinatra on "The Main Event?")

I have a brain like a sieve and I'm away from my home computer right now, but I THINK the NYC Lib. of Performing Arts has a few boxes of Benny stuff, too, including some charts that probably date from the '36-'39 period, since they have the muscians' names handwritten in the upper right corners ("Art," "Hymie," "Toots," "Vido," etc.). Haven't made it there to view the Goodman stuff, but it'd be a treat--I grew up listening to that band.
Didn't Loren Schoenberg have something to do with curating the Yale collection?
