Are there any artists (as in drawing, painting, ect.) on here who enjoy sketching out and drawing their clarinets?
I am by no means an artist (have no talent in that area) but of late I have found it extremely satisfying to sit down with pencil, paper, and my clarinet and sketch out my clarinet.
Is this wierd? So far my drawings look very, um, let's say sketchy. But I am enjoying it so much!
Are there any others who have tried this?
Suz

I overdid a diagram of an oboe that I had to do for a project so it ended up looking like a piece of art and I did draw violins with pencil crayons alot. Unfortunately... not clarinet... but i used it as reference for the oboe! (a little)

How interesting, SuzyQ!
Hope some day you'll post your drawing of your clarinet on this board.
(I think clarinet is hard to draw..)

VermontJM, (and all) you should try it. You've got nothing to lose.
Lucy, my drawings look like chicken scratch, but oh so much fun!

As an artistic "exercise" , I applaud any/all efforts to portray our beloved instruments by sketching/drawing. As a retired engineer, I'm more interested in how the various features work to generate pleasing sounds. Happily we can find BOTH in many of our "good books with Clarinet in the title", so I see no conflict. Isn't this the same "argument/discussion" as the differences between photography and "artistic painting" ? It looks to me like the old "to each his own" concept. Thots ?? Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

I'm not a painter but I have done some manipulated photographs of my clarinets and other instruments if that counts.
Samples are at http://www.themmd.com/clarinet.html

I fortunately once held my tongue when I saw a drawing of a Clarinet on the cover of a Clarinet book and asked the author who drew it.
I didn't like the drawing at all, but said nothing about it - just wanted to know who drew it (did their publisher use a poor quality drawing or what - note that I didn't go there)
He answered that his Daughter drew it - really glad that I held my tongue there!!!!

Nah. I'm not good at drawing things. Think stick people, smily faces and flower doodles.
I'll stick with the art of playing the clarinet.

Being from the "old school" of drawing and design and ocassionally painting and having started out long before computers took over many of the tasks and having worked twenty two years 'officially' (actual job title) as a Graphic Artist... I've never drawn my clarinet(s) :|
No reason, no excuses -- I just never did.
Interesting thought though, Suz, and thank you for the suggestion. Maybe someday :\

Rick,
Lovely works of art!! I downloaded some of them. 'Clarinetfresco' is my favorite. Can I put in in my clari-blog?

i once did a portrait of jimmy giuffre...but without his clarinet.
i've drawn many clarinets but usually simplified the keys for a more cartoony stylized look....that and laziness.
then there ws the time i had some fun w/ the cast of different strokes

No, but the paint fumes made me nauseous. Besides, if my tone gets any darker it will become invisible.
